United we are stronger. Whether it’s working together on even more free and inclusive events, improving our cost saving services, fighting for more affordable education, or building a more equitable campus community, there’s power in your students’ union. But we can’t do it without you, whether you live on campus, or commute to Ryerson – the RSU has a place for you. As your President, I look forward to hearing from you and fighting for the things that matter most to students, so get involved and have your say!
Ryerson is one of the most diverse campuses in Canada. With this diversity, comes an opportunity to acknowledge and celebrate our differences, while working together in building an inclusive campus community. United students have the power to organise and challenge racism, sexism, homophobia, transphobia, and ableism. As your Vice-President Equity, I hope to use this year to continue fostering a community that is accountable to one another, and celebrates our differences, to create a more accessible, inclusive, and safe campus for all.
Today’s students face an increasing amount of barriers to accessing post- secondary education. Battling through tuition fee increases and unfair university policies, many students see post-secondary education as a debt-sentence. As your Vice-President Education, I will continue to work hard and fight for a system of post secondary education that is accessible for all, and to ensure that university policies and agendas include students. Continuing the fight for education is a must, and collectively we can achieve that goal.
With growing student debt and the highest tuition fees in the country, access to services are more important than ever before. The RSU works hard to provide you with discounts like the student metropass, and great deals on movie tickets, sports games, and other events. Be sure to visit the Student Centre for the best price on textbooks at the Used Book Room, and to get involved to make the most out of your experience at Ryerson!
University is one time in your life that you have the chance to try new things, make new friends and become part of a community. What you choose to be involved in will shape you and your university experience. Whether its performing in our annual Culture Jam Showcase, joining on of our over 170 campus groups, partying on Gould Street, or cheering on the athletes at a home game, the RSU wants to support you and give you the opportunity to make your experience on campus more enjoyable. Whatever your interests are, there’s an event for you. As your Vice-President Student Life and Events, I hope to help you make the most of your experience at Ryerson. Don’t be afraid to get involved, and try something new.
